Preaching played a central role in medieval pastoral care, serving as a means to convey to people what to believe and how to behave. With certain limitations, Bohemian Good Friday sermons from the 14th century serve as a crucial source for gaining a deeper understanding of the religious culture and Passion devotion in this dynamic region. In my lecture, I will highlight catechetical models present in Milíč’s Good Friday model sermons and analyze these discourses as a “mass medium”, aiming to transmit a set of private devotional practices from affective literature on the Passion to broader audiences.
