Institute of Czech Literature and Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences are pleased to invite you to a lecture by prof. Nemanja Radulović (University of Belgrade) entitled Vuk Karadžić and the Emergence of Folkloristics in Europe. The lecture will take place on November 14, 2023 at 5:30 pm at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, Celetná 20, Prague 1, Room 247.
Vuk Karadžić’s work is based around the concept of folk literature. It determined both Vuk’s influence on Serbian culture and the reception of his work in Europe. Vuk can also be seen from the perspective of Serbian folklore and literary studies as well as from the broader perspective of European intellectual history. The lecture seeks to show how Vuk contributed to the formation of folklore and literary studies as a discipline in the early 19th century, and how his efforts figure in contemporary intercultural transfers in Europe.
The lecture will be held in English and is open to the public.
The lecture will take place with the support of the programme Strategy AV21 “City as a Laboratory of Change”.
